Why do you create art?

I use art as a tool to explore my emotions and the human experience.

Art helps me to focus my mind in a world full of noise; it is a therapeutic process for me. Art is a chance to make an impression upon others. I create work which endeavours to engage viewers through emotion and encourages them to ask questions of themselves and the world we live in.

How far do global events shape or influence your art?

My preference is to work from a person orientated perspective and the emotions these experiences evoke rather than specific global issues. My person-centred approach is one that I discovered late last year after doing my first sculpture based on my insecurities.

Has being in quarantine altered your creativity?

Being forced to be alone with my thoughts, with only limited materials as my company, has allowed me to make deep and meaningful work. It has also forced me to think innovatively, approaching my artistic process from a fresh perspective that will stay with me far beyond the confines of quarantine.

What advice would you give to artists struggling to create whilst in quarantine?

Create challenges for yourself, take one day at a time. There is no pressure to make or do anything; you cannot force art, when the time is right you will know. Explore with what you have at your disposal at home, make something fun! I think creating a diary and trying to translate how you’re feeling into any creative medium, whether that be fashion, writing or drawing will help to break a creative-block.
